DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Martin Ringbauer (Innsbruck University)\n\nDespite t
he paradigm shift from classical to quantum information\, theoverwhelming
majority of quantum computers and simulators still hold onto the age old t
radition of computing with Zeros and Ones. Yet\, naturedoes not give us tw
o-level systems. So I would like to make the case\,from the experimentalis
t perspective\, as well as the theoristperspective\, for embracing the nat
ural multi-level structure of ourquantum systems as the basis for efficien
t computation. I will discussthe opportunities and challenges of qudit-bas
ed quantum computing andsimulation with trapped ions\, with an eye towards
  applications inhigh-energy physics.\n\nhttps://indico.zdv.uni-mainz.de/ev
