Who Should Attend?
- All new MOGON users.
Prerequisites
- Bash proficiency at the level of MOGON Intro 101 or higher. You should be comfortable working in the shell and navigating files and directories.
- A fully set-up HPC account. We recommend completing MOGON Intro 102 beforehand to get the most out of the course.
What You will Learn
This course provides an introduction to high-performance computing (HPC) and shows you how to make effective use of MOGON. It covers the basics of running jobs on a cluster, working with parallel computing, and understanding the tools and systems behind MOGON. Topics include:
- Parallel Computing and HPC
- Introduction to the basic concepts and applications of HPC
- Overview of parallel computing and its advantages
- Job Scheduling
- Introduction to Slurm, the workload manager used on MOGON
- Learn how to submit and manage serial and parallel batch jobs
- The MOGON Cluster
- Overview of MOGON's architecture
- Introduction to the cluster's main capabilities and resources
- Parallel Programming
- Introduction to shared-memory parallelism (OpenMP)
- Basics of the Message Passing Interface (MPI) for distributed-memory systems
