Getting to Mainz

Train

The relevant station is Mainz Hbf. There are international services from the surrounding countries: either passing though Mainz directly, or with a connection in Frankfurt, Frankfurt International Airport, or Cologne.

Plane 

You  can land at Frankfurt International Airport, and get on a regional train to Mainz Hbf. While you are still inside the Airport, you will have to follow directions towards the train station of the airport, located underground the airport facility, called "Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Regionalbf". The relevant services from there are the S8, RE2, RE3. You will be able to buy tickets from vending machines once you are at the train station of the airport, for a price of about 5.80 Euro.

Note that the airport has a second train station dedicated to long distance trains (Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Fernbf). You can also travel to Mainz from there, but the fare is slightly higher (€9–€15) and services run less frequently.

 

Conference venue

The talks will take place in lecture hall C02 in the Schulz-Horner building (building 2321), located between the Institute of Mathematics and the Zentralmensa.

Bus and tram

The relevant stop is Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg. It is 10 minutes by foot from the Institute of Mathematics and the Schulz-Horner building.

Lunch options

  • Mensa: You will need a special card (`Mensa card') or an app (see below) in order to pay at the Mensa. The Mensa card is available for a deposit of 5 Euros at machines in the Mensa foyer. Look for the sign "Gästekarten". Note that for charging the card, you need cash. Alternatively, try to find some local participant who has a suitable card (and is willing to pay for you). An alternative to the card is an app called StudiwerkMainz App which you can charge with cash or from your European bank account, see https://www.studierendenwerk-mainz.de/en/app.
    Note however, that it may take up to one working day until a you can charge the app from your bank account.

  • Baron: A 10-15 minutes walk from the lecture hall. Can pay by cash or credit card. Pizza, Flammkuchen, German food

  • Diwan: A 7 minute walk. Pizza, Falafel, Kebab. Cash only.
